IBM: Emphasis On Storage Not Enough To Compete With Rivals

IBM (NYSE:IBM) has unveiled new all-flash media and software-defined storage solutions for making its storage offerings more compatible with hybrid cloud. The company believes this will help users store data flexibly according to their requirements, i.e., either on premises, or as software-defined storage, or as a cloud service.

IBM's emphasis on storage is an interesting topic, given that IBM's position in the cloud IaaS market is not very strong. Although IBM claims that it is primarily a software company in the field of cloud and analytics, hardware is still a significant part of its business. The business model is somewhat uncoordinated. In this article, I will reevaluate IBM's business model in light of the fast-changing cloud market dynamics.
