DLA Piper announced today that Noah Mamet, who served as US Ambassador to Argentina under President Barack Obama, has agreed to join the firm as a strategic advisor on Latin American issues.

Mamet will advise the firm, which recently announced an agreement with Argentinian firm Cabanellas Etchebarne Kelly (CEK), on the continued development of its practice in Latin America, with a specific focus on Argentina.

Mamet was nominated to serve as Ambassador to Argentina in 2013, was sworn in the following year and served until January 2017. In the role, he focused on building connections between the US and Argentina through increased trade as well as security, science, technology, energy and student exchanges. For his work, Ambassador Mamet was awarded the Order of San Martin at the rank of Great Cross, Argentina's highest civilian honor. He became only the third American in over 200 years to receive such a distinction by the government of Argentina.

"Ambassador Mamet's nuanced understanding of the economic and political landscape in Argentina and across Latin America will be an invaluable resource as we strive to anticipate and meet clients' legal needs in the region," said Roger Meltzer, DLA Piper's global co-chairman and co-chairman for the Americas. "Latin America is a crucial market for companies across the globe, and we continue to strategically expand our presence there as a key element of our global platform. Ambassador Mamet's experience in a variety of areas and issues that affect business in the region will be instrumental as we move forward."

In addition to its recent agreement with CEK in Argentina, DLA Piper also has agreements with law firms in Brazil, Chile, Colombia and Peru in addition to offices in Mexico and Puerto Rico.

Prior to his tenure as US Ambassador, Mamet founded a strategic business consulting firm with offices in Los Angeles and San Francisco working with dozens of clients including SpaceX, Tesla, City National Bank, The Clinton Global Initiative, Secretary Madeleine Albright and the Wasserman Family Foundation, among others.

Mamet has advised many political campaigns, including those of President Clinton and President Obama. Mamet served as National Finance Director for House Democratic Leader Richard Gephardt's 2004 presidential campaign. He received his B.A. from the University of California at Los Angeles and currently resides in Los Angeles and Buenos Aires.
