DLA Piper is pleased to announce that it has received the Robert A. Thompson Award from the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights of the San Francisco Bay Area (LCCR). The award recognizes pro bono contributions that have advanced the civil rights of marginalized communities by assisting low-income entrepreneurs, small businesses and nonprofit clients in real estate-related matters.

DLA Piper was recognized for its work with the organization’s Legal Services for Entrepreneurs Program and the counseling, training and support the firm has provided for low-income entrepreneurs and clients from communities of color with transactional legal needs, particularly in the area of commercial leasing. Associate Jeremiah Kauffman and pro bono counsel Suzanna Brickman were honored for their roles in organizing and operating attorney education seminars on commercial leasing for small businesses, as well as pro bono workshops, clinics and attorney matching for low-income entrepreneurs with corporate issues in San Francisco and East Palo Alto.

The firm received the award at LCCR’s 32nd Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Awards Dinner on February 1 in San Francisco.
