Marshall D. Feiring

Dentons, the world’s largest law firm, announces the addition of Marshall D. Feiring as a partner to its Capital Markets practice. Feiring focuses on tax issues relating to structured finance, securitization and fund formation, and will be resident in Dentons’ New York Midtown office.

Prior to joining Dentons, Feiring was in private practice focusing on multiple aspects of the formation and operation of complex investment vehicles, such as real estate mortgage investment conduits (REMICs), regulated investment companies (RICs) and real estate investment trusts (REITs). In his work, the REMICs involved single and multiple loans, commercial and residential loans and reperforming loans. Feiring also has knowledge and experience in numerous loan and REMIC agreement modifications and REMIC liquidations. Feiring is a frequent author on tax-related issues and regulatory developments affecting structured finance, including co-author of the BNA/Bloomberg Tax Management Portfolio “REMICs, FASITs and Other Mortgage-Backed Securities.”

“We are delighted to welcome Marshall to our highly regarded Capital Markets team,” said Mike McNamara, CEO of Dentons US. “His understanding of and deep experience in complex real estate investment tools will be a highly sought skillset for our clients.”

Before moving to the private sector, Feiring spent nearly 20 years at the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), where he served as a tax attorney and then as a senior technical reviewer. He was involved with issuing regulations and other guidance concerning REMICs, taxable mortgage pools, short sales, commodity contracts and financial institutions and products.

“Marshall is known for his deep technical knowledge and creativity in finding solutions for clients,” said Erik Klingenberg, chair of the Capital Markets practice. “He will be a terrific asset and we welcome him to our team.”

Feiring earned his LLM in taxation from Boston University School of Law, his JD from Brooklyn Law School and his BA, cum laude, from New York University, where he was a member of Phi Beta Kappa.

Dentons' US Capital Markets practice includes more than 50 lawyers and professionals who represent virtually every banking and financial institution in the financing, purchase and securitization of financial assets. Dentons' Capital Markets group has received top rankings in leading trade publications, including Chambers USA, in which the team has been praised as a formidable force across the full range of MBS and ABS transactions, and is frequently a favored choice for market participants on RMBS matters.
