Patterson Belknap Announces Three New Partners and Five Counsel

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Patterson Belknap Webb & Tyler LLP is pleased to announce that, effective January 1, 2021, Andrew P. Beame, Barbara L. Mullin, and Hope K. Plasha will become partners of the Firm, and Jacqueline L. Bonneau, Andrew D. Cohen, Diana M. Conner, David Kleban, and George A. LoBiondo will become counsel.

Andrew P. Beame practices in the Firm’s Corporate department, where he represents a wide variety of clients in transactional matters and as outside general counsel. Mr. Beame’s transactional practice is primarily focused on private equity, venture capital financing, and mergers and acquisitions. Mr. Beame also regularly advises emerging growth companies in all stages of their life cycle in areas such as entity formation, company contracts, credit facilities, employment agreements, equity and compensation matters, capital raising, and mergers and acquisitions. He has served as outside general counsel for companies in a broad range of industries, including Software as a Service businesses, life sciences, e-commerce, retail, healthcare, financial services, and education. Mr. Beame also has significant experience advising non-profit entities in connection with their impact investments and family offices. Mr. Beame received his J.D. from Fordham University School of Law and his B.A. from the University of Michigan.

Barbara L. Mullin practices in the Firm’s Litigation department, focusing on patent litigation. She regularly tries patent cases in federal courts and before arbitration panels and has argued before the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. Ms. Mullin has most recently been substantially engaged in representing innovator pharmaceutical companies in Hatch-Waxman litigation. In over 25 years of experience, her cases have involved diverse fields such as recombinant antibody technology, medical devices and methods, small molecule pharmaceuticals, semiconductor wafer processing, and water guns. Ms. Mullin also counsels innovator pharmaceutical and medical device clients on strategic patenting, licensing, and freedom to operate issues, as well as Orange Book Listings, Paragraph IV certifications, and other ANDA-related matters. She received her J.D. from Villanova University School of Law, cum laude, and her B.S. from the University of Pennsylvania, cum laude.

Hope K. Plasha practices in the Firm’s Real Estate department. She hasa broad-based national and international practice that includes the representation of landlords and tenants in leasing transactions, buyers and sellers in the acquisition and disposition of real property, developers and owners in the design and construction of commercial and residential buildings, and lenders and borrowers in a wide-spectrum of real estate financings. Ms. Plasha was elected as a Fellow of the American College of Real Estate Lawyers in 2019 and appointed to the Advisory Board of Georgetown University’s Advanced Commercial Leasing Institute in 2020. She has particular experience representing not-for-profit organizations and technology companies in their real estate needs. Ms. Plasha received her J.D. from Yale Law School and her M.Litt from Oxford University, Magdalen College, where she was a Marshall Scholar. She received her A.B. from Columbia University, Columbia College, magna cum laude, where she was elected to Phi Beta Kappa.

Jacqueline L. Bonneau practices in the Firm’s Litigation department, where her practice focuses on complex commercial litigation and employment law. Her practice also includes structured finance litigation, white collar defense and internal investigations, and class action defense. From 2012 to 2014, Ms. Bonneau served as a law clerk to the Hon. Janet Bond Arterton of the United States District Court for the District of Connecticut. She received her J.D. from Columbia Law School, where she was a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar and served as an Executive Editor on the Columbia Journal of Transnational Law. Ms. Bonneau received her B.S. from Georgetown University’s Walsh School of Foreign Service, magna cum laude.

Andrew D. Cohen, Ph.D. practices in the Firm’s Litigation department, where he focuses on patent litigation with an emphasis on the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries. He represents clients in patent litigation on a variety of subject matters including small molecule chemistry, biologics, and medical devices. He has litigated cases brought under the Hatch-Waxman Act and the Biologics Price Competition and Innovation Act (BPCIA), and has represented clients in inter partes reviews (IPR). He is a regular contributor to the Firm’s Biologics Blog, and maintains an active pro bono practice including civil rights litigation, housing disputes, and asylum applications. Prior to joining the Firm, Dr. Cohen served as a law clerk to the Hon. Cathy Seibel of the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York. Dr. Cohen received his J.D. from Fordham University School of Law. He holds a Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from Johns Hopkins University and his undergraduate degree in Chemistry from Princeton University, cum laude.

Diana M. Conner practices in the Firm’s Litigation department, where her practice focuses on complex commercial litigation and white collar defense. She represents clients before both trial and appellate courts on a variety of matters, including civil forfeiture actions, suits against banks that sponsored residential mortgage-backed securities, disputes involving major media companies, and other commercial litigation matters. Prior to joining the Firm, Ms. Conner served as a law clerk to the Hon. Colleen McMahon of the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York. She received her J.D. from Stanford Law School and her B.S. from the Georgia Institute of Technology.

David Kleban practices in the Firm’s Litigation department, where he represents clients in a variety of litigation contexts from pre-suit investigation through appeal and judgment collection. Mr. Kleban has assisted major media entities in the enforcement of their intellectual property rights in news content. He has also advised and represented investment firms and monoline insurers regarding claims concerning mortgage-backed securities. He has represented clients in SEC and CFTC investigations, among other complex investigations and lawsuits. Mr. Kleban received his J.D. from Harvard Law School, cum laude, and his B.A. from Duke University, magna cum laude, where he was elected to the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society.

George A. LoBiondo practices in the Firm’s Litigation department, where his practice focuses on complex commercial disputes, as well as internal investigations and matters adverse to government entities. He also has extensive appellate experience litigating antitrust, commercial, and criminal issues before federal and state appeals courts. Prior to joining the Firm, Mr. LoBiondo served as a law clerk to the Hon. John F. Keenan of the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York. He received his J.D. from Fordham University School of Law, where he served as Editor-in-Chief of the Fordham Law Review. Mr. LoBiondo received his B.A. from Fordham University, magna cum laude in cursu honorum.
