Loeb & Loeb LLP is pleased to announce the arrival of Ian Carleton Schaefer as a partner in theEmployment& LaborDepartmentin the firm’s New York office, where he will serve aschair of the New York Employment & Labor group. With significant industry experience in the technology, media and telecommunications and sports, music and entertainment sectors,Schaefer advises clients on the full spectrum of workplace and employment issues on both a domestic andinternational basis.

Schaefer’s impressive client roster includesprofessional sports leagues and their member clubs in the United States and internationally, as well as several of the most preeminent entertainment, music, media,technology,financial and professional services organizations in the world.

Prior to joining Loeb & Loeb, Schaefer was a partner in the Employment, Labor & Workforce Management practice at Epstein Becker Green, where he served as the co-leader of the Technology, Media, and Telecommunications group.Prior to joining Epstein Becker Green, Schaefer practiced labor and employment law in the New York office of Proskauer, where,among other accomplishments, he co-authored the successful briefs in the landmark U.S. Supreme Court decision 14 Penn Plaza v. Pyett, which modified 35 years of labor law. Concurrent with his roles at Epstein Becker Green and Proskauer, Schaefer served for a decade as the head of employment law for BT Americas Inc., a subsidiary of British Telecommunications plc, where he was responsible for management and oversight of all litigation and workforce management matters in the United States and Canada.

A classically trained musician and an advocate for arts education, Schaefer serves as trustee and general counsel to the New York Youth Symphony and is an active member on several committees of the board of directors of jazz at Lincoln Center (Wynton Marsalis, managing and artistic director).

He earned his J.D., cum laude, from Fordham University School of Lawand a B.S. from Cornell University’s School of Industrial and Labor Relations.
