NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF), the largest global AIDS organization, will host a grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony for its fourth healthcare center location in the New York City area, located in Manhattan’s Chelsea neighborhood at 365A W 28th St., New York, 10001 on Tuesday, July 26th from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m.AHF is also proud to officially announce Dr. Robert Chavez as one of its newest healthcare providers who will lead this Healthcare Center in Chelsea. The Healthcare Center will offer patient appointments Monday-Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Appointments can be scheduled by calling (212) 741-3030. The location will also offer an AHF Pharmacy Access Center site to provide pharmacy services to patients.
“We are excited to continue to expand AHF’s services in the greater NYC area and to now be able to offer patient care right in the middle of one of Manhattan’s traditionally gay neighborhoods,” said AHF’s NYC Regional Director Michael Camacho. “Dr. Robert Chavez has built a thriving practice based on providing compassionate care to approximately 2,000 patients and we’re thrilled to have him on board with AHF.”
“With Chelsea having the highest number of HIV, syphilis and gonorrhea infections of any neighborhood in New York City and the area seeing a dangerous reduction in services dedicated to testing and treating people with HIV over the last few years, this new AHF center will definitely meet a growing, unmet need,” said Dr. Chavez.
The new Chelsea healthcare center location joins other AHF locations in New York City, including the Brooklyn healthcare center (phone: 718-369-4850) and Out of The Closet thrift store located at 475 Atlantic Ave.; Columbus Circle healthcare center located at 30 W. 60th St., Suite AN (phone: 212-582-5006); and a location in Queens on the 7th floor of the AIDS Center Queens County (ACQC) building located at 161-21 Jamaica Ave., Jamaica, NY 11432 (phone: 929-421-4630).
AHF Healthcare Centers aim to decrease the number of new HIV/AIDS diagnoses by providing:
- Free HIV testing so people can be aware of their status;
- Immediate linkage into care – regardless of ability to pay – for those who test positive; and
- Support through ongoing follow-ups to ensure adherence to a health regimen that will ultimately extend life expectancies and reduce the risk of transmission.
According to the 2014 HIV/AIDS Annual Surveillance Report compiled by the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, Manhattan has the highest cases of new HIV diagnoses in New York City, followed by Brooklyn and Queens. Black and Latino men who have sex with men (MSM) continue to be disproportionately affected by HIV/AIDS in the city, with people between the ages of 20-29 bearing the greatest burden of new HIV infections.
AHF operates 46 Healthcare Centers throughout the United States – in Florida, California, Georgia, Ohio, Texas, Louisiana, Illinois, South Carolina, Maryland, Mississippi, New York, Nevada, Washington, D.C. and the state of Washington – and many more in the countries where AHF works throughout Asia, Africa, Europe, and Latin America.
