Dr. David H. Godfried Joins South Island Orthopedics

WOODBURY, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--South Island Orthopedics, an independent practice providing general orthopedics, orthopedic surgery and sports medicine for more than 50 years, today announced that Dr. David H. Godfried has joined its orthopedic specialty practice serving Woodbury and Cedarhurst and the “Five Towns” area of Long Island, expanding South Island’s specialty service offering into pediatric orthopedics. Dr. Godfried has served in a number of academic and clinical roles over his 20 years in practice, most recently serving as Director of the Center for Children and the Ignacio Ponseti Clubfoot Center at the NYU Langone Orthopedic Hospital and Hassenfeld Children’s Hospital. Previously, Dr. Godfried helped to expand the Pediatric Orthopaedic Program at Northwell Health’s Children’s Hospital in his role as Chief of the Division.

Over the course of his career, Dr. Godfried has participated on a number of hospital and professional society committees and as a Principal Investigator in several major research studies. He has co-authored multiple journal articles and book chapters and has regularly presented research at medical and scientific meetings. After graduating from Columbia University College of Physicians & Surgeons Medical School, Dr. Godfried completed his residency and fellowships at the University of Minnesota, Shriners Hospital for Children and at Children’s Memorial Medical Center at Northwestern University. After an appointment as Assistant Professor Orthopaedic Surgery and Pediatrics at Texas Tech University Medical School, he spent more than a decade at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and Long Island Jewish Medical Center before joining New York University Hospitals in 2009. Most recently, Dr. Godfried completed a Master’s in Business Administration at New York University Stern School of Business.

South Island Orthopedics is based in Cedarhurst, New York. It serves the “Five Towns” area of Long Island, as well as Rockaway, Long Beach and portions of Queens. Providing general orthopedics, orthopedic surgery and sports medicine, the group has been in practice for more than 50 years.
