Honorees were selected from law firms, non-profits, corporations, and the government. Waldman is the only professor selected this year.

“Professor Ari Ezra Waldman is an incredible advocate for the LGBT community here at New York Law School, and around the country, through his groundbreaking and innovative scholarship, teaching and leadership,” said NYLS Dean and President Anthony W. Crowell. “As director of the School’s Innovation Center for Law and Technology, through which he founded the Tyler Clementi Institute for CyberSafety, Professor Waldman serves the LGBT community with an incredible focus and energy.  We congratulate him on being recognized on a national level for his innovative work.”

An expert on data privacy and online harassment, Professor Waldman’s scholarship has been published in leading law reviews and he is invited regularly to speak across the country on cyberharassment, data privacy, and marginalized communities. He often appears as an analyst on radio and television, including most recently on Syfy’s miniseries, “The Internet Ruined My Life.”  He serves on various boards and advisory committees, including the Tyler Clementi Foundation’s Board of Trustees and the New York City Taxi and Limousine Commission’s Data Privacy Working Group. He holds a Ph.D. from Columbia University, a J.D. from Harvard Law School, and a B.A. from Harvard College.

Professor Waldman’s work focuses on how to protect personal information in the digital age and how to combat the epidemic of cyberharassment facing women, LGBTQ persons, and other marginalized groups.

The National LGBT Bar Association “Best LGBT Lawyers Under 40” honorees were announced June 22nd and will be awarded during the organization’s Lavender Law® Conference & Career Fair in Washington, DC on August 5th.
