KPMG Named a 'Vanguard Leader' by ALM Intelligence

10/18/16

A new report by research analyst ALM Intelligence on the Finance Excellence Consulting market names KPMG a "Vanguard Leader" and finds the audit, tax, and advisory firm has "the deepest capabilities" among the 24 service providers ALM evaluated.

In assessing the strength of KPMG's capabilities, ALM Analyst Nathan Simon, director and lead for Strategy & Operations Consulting Research, writes: "With the deepest capabilities in this consulting competency area, KPMG knows inside and out the drivers of finance that originate both inside the client and outside in the realm of regulatory and policy, risk, and technological change. Areas of distinction include governance and compliance and optimizing the scale and scope of finance operations."

ALM listed KPMG's finance excellence consulting capabilities as "Best-in-Class" in Governance & Control and said the firm is "particularly notable for the way it combines a highly tuned and programmatic model for finance transformation with a relatively tailored service delivery model." The report took note of KPMG's Powered Enterprise cloud-based offering.

Don Mailliard, KPMG's U.S. Corporate Services leader and North America leader for Financial Management, said, "We're pleased ALM has recognized the value of our investments in technology enablement capabilities in this space and the business transformation differentiation we have achieved with KPMG's Powered Enterprise. We believe this, together with our cross-functional, one firm approach to our finance transformation efforts, helps us solve our clients' most complex challenges."

Highlights from the ALM report include:

  • "KPMG's integrated transformation offering helps clients adapt their target operating models, including process, service delivery model, people & organization, data & reporting, technology and governance."
  • "The firm's 'powered enterprise' cloud-based offering augments and accelerates this transformation offering with an 80% pre-configured (business) operating model."
  • "KPMG's consulting approach builds on its point of view that the finance function needs to reduce its operating costs, while simultaneously shifting the composition of its activities away from governance and control toward value-creating services that improve the performance and efficiency of the broader business."

KPMG scored "Very Strong" in the categories of Governance & Control and Finance Transformation/Scale & Scope and Infrastructure, as well as "Strong" in Enterprise Performance Management/Financial Planning & Analysis; Finance Transformation/Process Complexity; and Client Transformation/Design Tools & Methods. In its peer group, KPMG was "Very Strong."
