Bohemia Realty Group, the preeminent brokerage for sales, commercial, and residential leasing in Upper Manhattan and the Bronx, is further extending its support of local artistic talent by sponsoring an exhibition of work created by Laurie Markiewicz and James “BlusterOne” Alicea, entitled LOCAL TRAVEL’RS©. The collection, which highlights drawings and photographs inspired by daily life in the city, opens on Tuesday, July 18,, 2017 from 7-8:30pm at the Bohemia Realty Group Harlem office at 2101 Frederick Douglass Blvd, between 113th and 114th Streets.
“We support the artistic community here because so many of our agents who live in Upper Manhattan are in the arts, as well,” points out Sarah Saltzberg, Bohemia Realty Group’s co-founding principal. “When we were designing our offices, we created open wall space in order to showcase important works by local artists. In fact, a massive oil by James Alicea currently hangs in the lobby of our Washington Heights office, welcoming visitors every day!”
During the week of July 18 to July 25, different pieces of the collection will be on display simultaneously at both of Bohemia Realty Group’s offices. The last day of the show, Tuesday, July 25, is at Bohemia Realty Group’s Washington Heights office at 3880 Broadway, between 162nd and 163rd Streets, and runs from 7-8:30 p.m. In addition to viewing original works and meeting with the artists, guests attending the opening and closing nights will celebrate with wine, hors d’oeuvres, and more. As Ms. Markiewicz explains, “I’m a keen observer of people during my daily commute throughout New York City. Like myself, I find my fellow commuters are a rich microcosm of proud denizens hailing from all over the boroughs, from all over the world. The people of New York City all carry a common thread of pride and perseverance. This particular body of work demonstrates how the multicultural backgrounds of its’ people move together.”
Adds Mr. Alicea, “For this specific exhibition, I felt the need to show the public how my mind works by digging into my sketchbooks and doing the unheard of: dissecting my sketchbooks and presenting my original work. Bohemia is in the business of showing real estate and providing an intimate setting for potential renters or buyers. I, in the same vein, want to invite people ‘in’ and make them comfortable.”
