Globalization and the Younger Generations

According to UN Habitat, “85 percent of the world’s young people live in developing countries, and an ever-increasing number of them are growing up in cities. It is estimated that by 2030, as many as 60% of all urban dwellers will be under the age of 18.” Recent history attests that our current demographic condition can be a source of promise or peril, depending on how the potential of youth is harnessed by local, state, and national leaders.

At MIPIM’s opening ceremony, Adora Svitak,a renowned youth writer, thinker, advocate and lecturer, will deliver the keynote speech and subsequently moderate the Thinkers & Leaders panel, addressing some of the pertinent issues emerging regarding youth and urbanization. She will delve into the impacts of urbanization and the ways we think about space—pointing out examples from schools, libraries, companies, and municipalities and how millennials are able to influence with every click, like, and swipe. She will also offer relevant, research-backed insights on Millennials and Generation Z, including examples from Developing Economies. There will be active participation throughout the talk, with a specializes Twitter hashtag which will be use to solicit audience responses, as well as a question and answer session for attendees following Andora's speech.
