Welcoming and Spacious 23,000 Square-Foot Facility Offers Innovative Programs Including Medical, Social and Therapeutic Services


Marking the grand opening of The New Jewish Home’s new state-of-the-art adult day health care facility at the Hutchinson Metro Center in the Pelham Bay section of The Bronx are (left to right): Jeffrey I. New Yorkers now have access to a new state-of-the-art adult day health care facility offering medical, social, and therapeutic services for people with chronic health conditions. A program of The New Jewish Home, the spacious and welcoming facility is conveniently located on the first floor of Simone Development’s Hutchinson Metro Center at 1200 Waters Place in the Bronx.

The New Jewish Home is one of the nation’s largest and most diversified nonprofit older adult health care systems, providing rehabilitation, skilled nursing and health care programs, which serves 12,000 older adults of all faiths and ethnicities annually.

The Adult Day Health Care Program provides a diverse array of physical and mental health services for adults who live with chronic health conditions including, for example, heart disease, diabetes, behavioral health problems, and Alzheimer’s and dementia, as well as for the very frail, the cognitively impaired and those who need rehabilitation.

Among the available services are: physical, occupational and speech therapy; a behavioral health program; diabetes management; medication management; health monitoring; skilled nursing care; nutritional counseling; and social work services. A special night care program provides a safe place for people with Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias, giving family members and caregivers much-needed respite and relief.

The services are provided by a supportive, nurturing and highly-skilled staff comprising a medical doctor, nurses, a certified psychiatric nurse, speech, occupational and physical therapists, a nutritionist, an alcohol and substance abuse counselor, and social workers.

Set in 23,000 square feet of newly-renovated and beautifully-designed space, the program offers:

  • Four themed dining areas – the Salon, Pub, Garden and Patio – which provide nutritious meals and healthy snacks;
  • Private suites with professional rehabilitation equipment, including a recumbent cross trainer, treadmill and leg extension machine;
  • Individual areas for massage, electrotherapy and ultrasound treatment;
  • A spacious library with hundreds of books, periodicals and magazines;
  • Calming garden room for reflection and meditation;
  • Welcoming lounge with a cozy fireplace; and
  • Six recreational areas, including an arts and crafts room.


Participants can also enjoy a wide range of classes, including art, music, gardening and photography, as well as access to a high-tech media center and computer lab.
