DLA Piper Receives Pro Bono Award From National Juvenile Defender Center

5/20/18

DLA Piper is pleased to announce that the firm has received the inaugural Norman Dorsen Award from the National Juvenile Defender Center in recognition of its work in support of juvenile justice.

The award was named for the civil rights attorney who successfully argued before the Supreme Court in favor of children's constitutional right to counsel in juvenile court. Last year marked the 50th anniversary of the decision, In re Gault.

DLA Piper was honored for its work in the areas of legal challenges to video hearings for youth, juvenile bail reform and ensuring children's constitutional right to prompt probable cause determinations. The firm received the award at the center's The Story of Justice reception, which commemorated the legacy of the Gault decision and was held on May 15, 2018, at the National Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington, DC.
