CDPHP Workforce Team Challenge Raises Record $45,000 for Local Charities

5/29/18

Albany, New York, May 29, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The CDPHP Workforce Team Challenge – the Capital Region’s largest annual road race – raised record-breaking funds for two local charities. Race organizers presented $45,000 in donations today to this year’s charities of choice, the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York and the Albany Public Library Foundation.

“Year after year, I continue to be amazed by the generosity of CDPHP Workforce Team Challenge participants,” said John D. Bennett, MD, president and CEO of CDPHP. “What started out as a way for businesses to come together to engage in some healthy, friendly competition has truly turned into a source of hope for so many Capital Region charitable organizations."

The Albany Public Library Foundation will use their portion of the record-breaking $45,000 in donations to support Raising a Reader – the Albany Public Library’s early literacy program.

"The Albany Public Library Foundation is thrilled to receive this generous donation from CDPHP and the Hudson-Mohawk Road Runners Club through the CDPHP Workforce Team Challenge charity of choice program,” said Holly McKenna, board president of the Albany Public Library Foundation. “The funds will go to Albany Public Library's Raising a Reader early literacy initiative, which encourages and supports families as they introduce their infants and toddlers to language, vocabulary, and reading before they enter kindergarten. Today's donation will enable Albany Public Library to support Raising a Reader in full for 2018."

The Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York will use funds to support their Patroon Land Farm. Located in Voorheesville, the farm supplies the food bank and its participating agencies with fresh, diverse produce.

“It has been an honor and privilege for the Regional Food Bank to be one of the charities of choice for this year’s CDPHP Workforce Team Challenge,” said Mark Quandt, executive director of the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York. “It brought great attention to our work, along with new friends and valuable financial support. We are very grateful to CDPHP for sponsoring such a wonderful event, and the Hudson-Mohawk Road Runners Club for organizing the race and making everything run so smoothly.”

The CDPHP Workforce Team Challenge is organized by and serves as an important fundraiser for the Hudson-Mohawk Road Runners Club (HMRRC). In addition to raising funds for local charities, the race also helps to fund HMRRC’s college scholarships, grants, and free running programs.
