CoreNet NYC Hosts Discussion With Erin Loos Cutraro, Founder And CEO Of She Should Run

6/5/18

The CoreNet Global New York City Chapter (CoreNet NYC) Women’s Grouprecently welcomed innovative leader and political expert Erin Loos Cutraro, Founder and CEO of She Should Run, a non-partisan organization working to increase the number of women running for office in the United States. The event took place on Wednesday, May 2nd, 2018 at Viacom.

Sharing Opportunities of Growth

Moderated by Louise Matthews, Vice President of Global Real Estate at Bacardi, the discussion highlighted how both men and women in CoreNet could leverage their current roles to effectively instill change in their communities. Cutraro explained that the United States ranks 100th in terms of female representation in office and that many women are not encouraged or recruited at the same pace as men and consequently do not see themselves as qualified. As an entrepreneurial leader, Cutraro is known for finding innovative solutions to complex challenges, and during the conversation, she shed light on the importance of sharing resources, such as educational opportunities through mentoring and other professional development tools,to create change and combat lack of diversity.

The Necessary Perspectives for Policy

Cutraro emphasized that they did not want to get more women in office just because it helps women, but because it helps the country by ensuring inclusive decision-making. A proponent of helping others, her advocacy led to the establishment of She Should Run’s flagship program, the Incubator, a first-of-its-kind virtual community and series of resources for women considering a run for office. “The reason we’re really nonpartisan [She Should Run] is because at the core of our work is a firm belief that women bring unique experiences and perspectives to the table, and we want to make sure that those experiences are represented in policy making,” Cutraro said. “We’re not going to have the smartest policy solutions if we don’t have a wide range of perspectives.”

Following the discussion and Q&A with the audience, the conversation continued with a networking session in which guests could chat with Cutraro and Matthews. Conversations from CoreNet events, including the She Should Run discussion, are made available via podcast on CoreNet’s website.
