JLL’s Dana Robbins Schneider Joins LEED Steering Committee

6/19/18

JLL announced that Dana Robbins Schneider, managing director and national practice lead for JLL Energy and Sustainability Services, was appointed by the U.S. Green Building Council as a Member At-Large on the LEED Steering Committee. As a Member At-Large, she will serve an initial one-year term starting January 1, 2018, and will remain eligible to serve on the Steering Committee through 2021.

The U.S. Green Building Council was founded in 1993 to promote sustainability in building design, construction and operation. The organization’s LEED Steering Committee serves as the governing body of all the organizations’ Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, or LEED, committees. The steering committee was created to develop and maintain LEED as a leadership tool; preserve the integrity of the LEED rating systems; and ensure the use of the consensus process to evolve LEED in accordance with USGBC’s mission, guiding principles and strategic plan.

“The LEED Steering Committee helps to guide the USGBC’s work on continued leadership in energy and environmental design — ensuring that stringent and holistic sustainability requirements continue to evolve as technology and industry, as well as public knowledge, grows,” said Robbins Schneider. “I am honored to serve on the Steering Committee and hope this will allow me to assist with the development and implementation of innovative strategies and tools for clarifying, driving, and validating performance in all types of buildings at all stages of design, construction and occupancy. We must continue to demonstrate the business case for investment in intensive efficiency with a goal of net zero energy, water, and waste and healthy indoor spaces.”

Robbins Schneider led the team that implemented a whole-building deep energy retrofit of the Empire State Building. She was instrumental in developing a groundbreaking analytical model for the project to maximize energy and environmental value per dollar spent. This work has reduced energy use at the Empire State Building by 40 percent, and has provided the foundation for programs including Energy Star for Tenants and the Urban Land Institute’s Tenant Energy Optimization Program.

Robbins Schneider has now replicated this energy optimization process in more than 100 spaces across the United States. In addition to her work at the Empire State Building, she manages energy and sustainability aspects of mission critical facilities across the country and, along with her team, has led energy and sustainability assignments at more than 240 million square feet of properties.
