General Electric - What's It Worth?

General Electric (NYSE:GE) has had a torrid three years, but their shares have recently risen on the prospect of the firm breaking up into separate businesses. The company has already announced it is preparing to spin off its healthcare and power sub-units into either separate listed entities or to a willing strategic buyer.

In light of this, we'll be looking at and valuing each component of the company conservatively. We'll use comparable companies to determine what each sub-unit of GE is likely to fetch, assuming they are sold as whole businesses. The components that GE is divided into are not arbitrary; rather, they are the groupings that the company itself uses in its annual report.
