DLA Piper Partners with The Advocates for Human Rights

7/24/18

New Perimeter, DLA Piper's nonprofit affiliate that provides long-term pro bono legal assistance in under-served regions around the world, partnered with The Advocates for Human Rights (The Advocates), a non-governmental organization that works to end violence against women, to provide on-the-ground assistance in connection with a strategic review of UN Women's work to end violence against women and domestic violence in Bosnia. UN Women is a United Nations entity focused on gender equality and women's empowerment.

In June, DLA Piper associate Stephanie Zosak (Chicago) traveled to Bosnia along with Rosalyn Park, the director of The Advocates' Women's Human Rights Program. They visited several cities and interviewed stakeholders about their work on domestic violence and gender-based violence against women, and their experiences with programs supported by UN Women. The fact-finding mission covered topics such as media, primary and secondary education, economic empowerment of women, creating safe cities and engaging men and boys to prevent gender-based violence. The notes and findings from the trip will form the basis of a comprehensive report evaluating UN Women's programs, as well as a strategic overview with recommendations for UN Women's future initiatives. The report will help inform UN Women BiH's strategic vision for the next four years.
