NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Guidepost Solutions, a global leader in compliance, investigations, monitoring, and security consulting, is proud to announce that Bart M. Schwartz, Chairman, has been named to City & State’s inaugural Law Power 50 list. City & State's lists of the most powerful people in New York have previously featured recognized leaders from the real estate, higher education, and technology sectors and takes into account the opinion of insiders and experts in each respective field, ranking those on the list based on their achievements, track record, and sway with powerful politicians. Mr. Schwartz is recognized as the eleventh most powerful person in New York politics working in law.

“I’m grateful to City & State for this great honor, and for being included alongside some of the most accomplished people in the legal profession,” said Mr. Schwartz. “Throughout my career, I have served as a trial lawyer, corporate advisor, and the CEO of both a private company and a unit of a public company. In every role I’ve held, it is my legal training that prepared me to manage complex situations. I am proud to be part of the New York legal community.”

Described by The New York Times as the person “often sought out in…thorny situations” by corporations, Mr. Schwartz has wide experience providing advice and support to companies, governments, and individuals. He served under U.S. Attorney Rudolph Giuliani as the Chief of the Criminal Division in the Southern District of New York. In that post, Mr. Schwartz had oversight for prosecutions related to financial and business fraud, organized crime, narcotics, and other types of criminal activity.

On February 28, 2019, Mr. Schwartz was appointed by Secretary Ben Carson of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and Geoffrey Berman, U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York, as the federal Monitor overseeing the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA), ensuring that it corrects the chronically poor housing conditions endured by residents.

For more than 30 years, Mr. Schwartz has managed complex investigations, prosecutions, and security assessments, and provided sophisticated investigative services to a wide array of entities. In addition to the NYCHA federal monitorship, he has had numerous appointments from the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, the U.S. Department of Justice, and other local and federal entities to monitor the conduct of organizations ranging from General Motors to an international Norwegian shipping company.

Outside of work, Mr. Schwartz is dedicated to giving back to the local community. He is Chair of The All Stars Project, Inc. New York board and is a member of its national Board of Directors. The All Stars Project is a nonprofit organization that sponsors afterschool development programs to help inner-city youth and their families. Mr. Schwartz is also on the board of directors of the Stuyvesant High School Alumni Association. For the past three years, he has stepped forward to pay the National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT) registration fees for all Stuyvesant sophomores. In 2017, Stuyvesant High School became the high school with the largest number of National Merit Semi-Finalists (165) in the United States.
