Simone Development Companies announced a new collaboration with Montefiore Health Systems and The Neustadt Collection of Tiffany Glass for Louis Comfort Tiffany’s Shade Garden, a Tiffany lamp exhibit that inspires healing and health. The three-month exhibit is sponsored by Simone Development Companies and Montefiore Health Systems and takes place in the lobby of Montefiore’s Hutchinson Campus in the Bronx, showcasing six unique and beautiful lamps made over a century ago by famed New York tastemaker Louis Comfort Tiffany. The announcement was made by Guy Leibler, Neustadt Trustee and President of Simone Healthcare Development.
In a growing number of hospitals, artworks serve as powerful tools for reducing stress and increasing satisfaction with care. Studies show that art, especially with natural or floral themes, enhances patient recovery, promotes tranquility, and provides respite for visitors and staff. Montefiore, a network of 11 hospitals and a medical school, is committed to utilizing art to benefit its patients, staff and students. Its Fine Art Program and Collection, headed Jodie Moise, curator, provides a wide range of art programming at its main medical center and affiliated hospitals and medical office practices.
“We are thrilled to collaborate with Montefiore and The Neustadt on this truly unique and beautiful exhibit,” said Leibler. “The exhibit is on view for thousands of patients, guests and staff. We are especially excited to bring to life the concept of healing through art and to bring peace and calm in what is usually considered a hectic and stressful environment.”
The new Tiffany lamp exhibit features floral lampshades with brilliantly-colored blooms and marks The Neustadt’s first exhibition program of loan shows for medical environments. Studies have shown that art, especially nature-themed, can provide significant therapeutic benefits and can even improve patient recovery. The warm glow and bright blooms of the Tiffany lamps on display will reduce stress and anxiety, encourage tranquility, and above all, offer a welcomed respite for patients and their families.
The exhibit is on display through September 30th in the lobby of Montefiore’s state-of-the-art Ambulatory Facility, located at Hutchinson Metro Center’s Tower II, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Montefiore’s 280,000-square-foot ambulatory care center was designed to create a healing environment and provide patients with a positive experience.
“We are excited to partner with Montefiore to share the beauty and local New York City history of Tiffany with its community. The visual arts have an important role to play in promoting recovery, and we are proud to share portions of our collection to support the healing process. This new exhibition, Louis Comfort Tiffany’s Shade Garden, featuring floral lampshades with brilliantly-colored blooms, marks the first time Tiffany lamps have been shown in a hospital setting. We hope these beautiful works bring tranquility to both patients and hospital staff,” explained Lindsy Parrott, executive director and curator of The Neustadt. For the lobby show—the Bronx’s first major display of Tiffany’s works—she selected opalescent glass lamps with motifs including daffodils, apple blossoms, peonies, and pond lilies.
This collaboration with Montefiore inaugurates The Neustadt’s new exhibition program of loan shows for medical environments. Up to 10 floral lamps are available for display in hospitals and other healthcare facilities. The Queens-based Neustadt is a premier collection of Tiffany’s iconic lamps, windows, metalwork and rare archival materials, including over a quarter of a million pieces of Tiffany flat glass and glass jewels.
