Romania Wins at DLA Piper’s First International Lawyer for a Day Competition

9/23/20

DLA Piper Hungary has held the first international finals of its case-solving competition, Lawyer for a Day, a unique, practice oriented legal advisory and case study focused contest aimed at high-performing law students. The objective of the competition is for students in their final year of law school to gain a real insight about the firm and the way DLA Piper works as trusted advisor.

Now in its seventh edition, this is the first year that DLA Piper’s Budapest office celebrates this competition at an international level, providing law students from 15 different countries the opportunity to develop their skills and challenge themselves.

This year, DLA Piper held a virtual competition, which was won by the Romanian team. The firm provided all the required online tools.

Six teams of over 20 students from five countries (Spain, Romania, Russia, Italy and Hungary) were shortlisted for the finals. Participants had to represent a fictional client who wanted to set up a cross-border business in Europe and Africa. Students had to assist in drafting and negotiating a joint venture agreement, as well as dealing with legal and day-to-day business challenges. This provided students the opportunity to experience the pressures of negotiating in real-life conditions, and to work with the client, team leaders and support lawyers in order to resolve the case.
