Ariel, Berdon, Fisher Brothers, Signature Bank Work with Legal Outreach High School Real Estate Program

1/13/21

Ariel Property Advisors and Berdon LLP are proud to partner with Legal Outreach and sponsor firms Fisher Brothers and Signature Bank to offer high school students an insightful and impactful look into the world of real estate. The program, called “Let’s Make a Deal,” will consist of eight immersive sessions that seek to impart a foundational knowledge of the real estate industry, focusing on business and financial fluency to inspire high school students to pursue professional endeavors in the process.

During each session, professionals from Ariel, Berdon and other partner firms will present selected topics in real estate to student participants who will use that knowledge to analyze a case study that illustrates the topic’s application to the real world. Students will each be assigned a different building with varied characteristics and at the end of the program will use the information they received from each session to create a presentation that successfully presents their building to a group of potential investors.

“We designed this program for Legal Outreach as a way to offer students an opportunity to see what careers are available, whether in a real estate company or any of the many industries that service the real estate industry,” said Meyer Mintz, Partner and Co-Lead, Real Estate Practice, Berdon LLP. “This program is not only helping students to learn more about the New York City real estate market, but also potentially paving the way for their future and the future of this dynamic and exciting industry.”

“’Let’s Make a Deal’ is a great opportunity for companies to engage employees in meaningful community service and creates a pipeline to diversity initiative while investing in the future of the real estate community,” said Shayna Williams, Esq., Legal Training and Partnerships Coordinator, Legal Outreach. “Our work with Ariel Property Advisors, Berdon LLP and our partner firms has been incredibly rewarding for our students and we’ve been proud to watch them go on to pursue their own exciting careers.”

The program is currently looking for other sponsor companies and organizations that can offer insight on specific topics to the next generation of real estate talent in underserved communities in New York City. Topics for consideration include Funding the Purchase Price (Lending); Finding the Right Investor; Finance, Legal and Property-Level Diligence; and Papering the Deal, among others.

"Being a part of the program has opened various doors to me. Though I have briefly heard of the real estate industry and had limited involvement, I never would have been able to experience something like this,” said Victoria F., a high school student participating in the program. “This has broadened my perspective on my career and education options. I look forward to class because I always learn something new.”

Firms and companies that participate in this real estate-focused professional exposure program will be recognized by Legal Outreach as Social Justice Sponsors and Partners on social media and at a June 2021 Fundraising Gala that will support the continuation of this program in the years to come.

“Ariel Property Advisors is committed to advancing opportunities for underrepresented groups in the commercial real estate industry,” said Shimon Shkury, President and Founder, Ariel Property Advisors. “Ariel has worked with Legal Outreach for many years now and each year we are proud to reach more students, promote enthusiasm for real estate and business in the community and hopefully inspire students to consider careers in the industry I know and love.”
