Jaros, Baum & Bolles (JB&B) is pleased to congratulate Associate Partner Ryan Lean on assuming the presidency of the Building Commissioning Association’s (BCxA) International Board of Directors.

The BCxA was formed in 1998 to advance the application of commissioning practices as well as to educate the market about commissioning. Its members represent all aspects of the commercial building industry, along with allied professionals and building owners.

Along with his duties as president, Ryan will continue in his role as Membership Chair, and previously has served as Vice President of BCxA’s Northeast Chapter and President of the Building Commission Certification Board (BCCB). “Ryan’s personality, leadership and dedication to what’s best for the BCxA organization as a whole will serve us during his presidential term in what looks to be another year that will require flexibility and innovation,” said Daniel Forino, immediate past president of the BCxA and Division Manager at Brookhaven National Laboratory.

Besides his oversight of commissioning projects at JB&B, Ryan also leads JB&B Field, a division of the firm incorporating ten specific field-related services into one comprehensive service offering, and continues his development of the firm’s in-house training program, JB&B University, a formal 11-college university now in its fifth year.

Ryan views the field of building commissioning and related services as one meant to foster relationships with owners and operators and to guide them through the challenges of transitioning to a new facility, whether it’s a commercial, mission-critical, educational, laboratory, healthcare, cultural or financial institution.

In light of the pandemic response, building systems will require more vigilance and integrated testing to safeguard occupants as they return to work or continue to work on the front lines. This will result in commissioning becoming even more critical in 2021. “The industry will continue to look to the BCxA for leadership in commissioning and best practices,” notes Kevin Thurston, President of the BCCB (Building Commissioning Certification Board). “As president, Ryan Lean and the International Board and all the members of BCxA will continue to lead and promote the commissioning industry as the critical service that it is.”

Ryan holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University at Buffalo, State University of New York. He is a licensed Professional Engineer in the States of Pennsylvania, Connecticut, New Jersey and New York, and is also a LEED Accredited Professional, Certified Commissioning Professional, WELL Accredited Professional, Existing Building Commissioning Professional, and Certified Energy Auditor.
