REBNY Applauds Biden Administration for Removing Barrier to Federal Funding for Gateway Program

2/18/21

Following the U.S. Department of Transportation’s decision to rescind guidance issued in 2018 that had effectively blocked the Gateway Program's access to federal funding, REBNY President James Whelan released the following statement:

“Strong leadership from the Biden Administration on infrastructure is a welcome sign for the nation’s economic recovery.

“The Gateway Program is America’s most important infrastructure priority. Restoring access to federal funding for Gateway is an initial but pivotal step toward advancing the project, which will improve mass transit service for millions of commuters, create thousands of good jobs and play a significant role in getting our regional and national economies back on track. It will be crucial for the federal government to keep this momentum going and act quickly to allocate the funds needed to get the project underway.

“We look forward to working with the Biden Administration, Senate Majority Leader Schumer and other stakeholders to ensure the long overdue vision for Gateway can finally become a reality.”
