Construction has begun on 1050 Sixth Avenue, a 24-story, 300-foot-tall residential tower designed by Gene Kaufman Architect. The 63,000-square-foot building is a project of Garden Homes Development, the New York division of New Jersey-based Skyline Developers.

The building will have 61 apartments, with two studios and two one-bedrooms on Floors 3-12, a pair of two-bedrooms on Floors 13-21, and a single two-bedroom apartment on Floors 22-24. Apartments on the 19th floor and above will have balconies overlooking Bryant Park.

The building will have a fitness center; a second-floor bar/lounge with an outdoor terrace, both for tenants’ use; rooftop space; and a large basement storage area with space for bicycles. The ground floor will have 2,700 square feet of retail space.

Gene Kaufman Architect is also designing the building’s interiors. The lobby (photo left) will have iconic elements that pay homage to the surrounding neighborhood, including the lions that greet visitors at the main branch of the New York Public Library on nearby Fifth Avenue. The apartments’ living/dining spaces will have a warm Scandinavian Modern feel; the kitchens will sport a clean, modern aesthetic; and the deluxe bathrooms will be sheathed in marble (see photos below).

WSP | Parsons Brinckerhoff Engineering Services, Ettinger Engineering Associates and AECOM are the structural, mechanical and environmental consultants working on the projects.
