MAPIC 2018 Focuses On Physical In The Age Of Digital

9/26/18

The global retail real estate industry will come together once again this fall at MAPIC 2018. Today, e-commerce accounts for 10% of total retail sales worldwide; and a full 90% of retail sales last year occurred in physical stores. However, this statistic is constantly changing in the digital age and new online retail dynamics are consistently emerging. MAPIC 2018’s theme will be Transforming Reality: Physical in the Age of Digital and will explore this evolving trend.

Organized by Reed MIDEM, MAPIC 2018 will be held in Cannes, France from November 14th to 16th, 2018. MAPIC 2018 is expected to attract over 8,600 participants from 80 countries, 2,100 of which will be retailers. The program will feature over 100 industry-changing speakers.

In today’s digital world, retail consumers are constantly seeking emotional engagement through physical, experiential and social experiences. As a result, retail locations are renovating their spaces to accommodate social and community gathering. MAPIC 2018 will explore this shift as well as the rise of wellness and its impact on the physical shopping space, modern purchasing models and how culture influences shopping centers. Highlighted discussions from the program include “Reshaping Retail with a New Connected Consumption Experience”, “Is There a Future for a European Art of Retailtainment?”, “Are Culture and Education the Future of Shopping Centers”, “Retail: A Booster for Tourism!”, “Re-Investing in High Streets: International Vibes!” and “Specialty Leasing: Will Pop-Up Retail Last Forever?”.

E-Commerce Experts Emphasize the Importance of Logistics & the Physical Store Experience

MAPIC’s gold-standard conference program will take a long, hard look at two hot topics in the retail world: logistics and the way e-commerce companies are entering and transforming the physical store experience.

One session, “All You Need is Logistics!”, will feature Keynote speaker Ronan Bole, Director of Operations for France at Amazon. Ronan has been working for Amazon since 2015. Prior to Amazon, Ronan worked at Valeo where he served in many operational and logistics roles. Raimund Paetzmann, Vice President of Real Estate at Zalando SE, will also be a featured speaker for this topic. Zalando SE is Europe’s number one e-commerce fashion platform specializing in shoe delivery. Prior to Zalando SE, Raimund worked at Amazon Europe.

Philippe Chainieux, CEO of MADE.com, an online home furnishings and homeware brand, will be featured on the “E-Commerce: Energizing Physical” panel. MADE.com has consistently been named one of the UK’s fastest-growing tech companies and combines its online shopping with physical experiential showrooms throughout Europe. Philippe will help guide conversation on how to combine e-commerce with brick and mortar sales platforms to effectively target customers. Prior to MADE.com, Philippe served as CEO at Meetic, formally Europe’s largest dating site that was acquired by Match.com’s parent company IAC in 2013.

Thomas Kouck, Managing Director and Partner at Vente-Privee Entertainment will be a featured speaker at the first MAPIC Leisure Summit. Thomas will speak about the importance of the entertainment industry today and how it pertains to real estate. He will touch on how environment, emotion and leisure contribute to the future success of the physical retail industry. Enhanced customer experience will be crucial to the survival of shopping centers in the digital world.

"MAPIC 2018 aims to detail the rapidly evolving world of retail real estate. Participants will have the chance to learn about everything from culture to logistics within the industry,” said Nathalie Depetro, Director of MAPIC. “We are pleased to feature speakers from incredible trailblazing companies. These discussions will offer unparalleled insight into the future trajectory of the retail industry.”
