During the COVID-19 pandemic, CoreNet Global NYC (CoreNet) is leveraging the industry’s thought leaders to keep the corporate end-user community informed, connected and moving forward through remote events and proactive thought leadership forums, including the CoreNet Connections and CoreNet Plugged In series.
Leading Change
CoreNet NYC convened top corporate real estate professionals, as well as the largest landlords from across the New York metro area, for a roundtable on how the industry can work together to maintain business continuity and ensure future viability. In partnership with the Avenue of the Americas Association, CoreNet NYC hosted a Landlord x Tenant Roundtable. This virtual “closed-door”, one-time event included owners and landlords from the Avenue of the Americas Association and senior corporate real estate executive members of CoreNet to have an impactfuldiscussion on how the industry can pull to together to emerge from this health and economic crisis stronger and better prepared, including the next steps both tenants and landlords can take in reopening and how to prepare for further challenges.
“Open conversations between owners and occupiers will be crucial going forward,” said Alison Kwiatkowski, Programming & Outreach Committee Chair and Vice President, Americas Business Partner, Deutsche Bank. “All stakeholders in the real estate ecosystem need to collaborate and coordinate to create practical solutions that keep the industry strong. This roundtable created a space for these discussions to happen.”
Connecting Industry Professionals
CoreNet NYC has rolled out a new virtual event series consisting of five weekly events. Each Monday, two CoreNet Connections Coffee Break events take place, with one of these events being dedicated to End User Members. The Coffee Break events provide an open forum, facilitated by various hosts, for real estate professionals to share ideas, experiences, concerns and more.
On Wednesdays, CoreNet offers a Coffee Break event in the morning, followed by the weekly CoreNet Plugged In remote event at 12:30 PM. The Plugged In series consists of formally structured panels and presentations on specific, industry-related topics. These events typically see 150 to 200 attendees, including high-level real estate officials. In a recent installment, the Strategy and Portfolio Planning Committee hosted a two-part series on the re-opening of buildings during the initial phase and the long term, consisting of JLL’s Jim Wooster, Rockefeller Group’s John Pierce, Marsh and McLennan Companies’ Jim Casey, Convene’s Ryan Simonetti, Google’s Paul Darrah, Macquarie Group’s Andrew Burdick, Leesman’s Tim Oldman, and STUDIOS Architecture’s Todd DeGarmo.
Rounding out the week, CoreNet offers an additional CoreNet Connections Happy Hour event on Fridaysfor commercial real estate professionals. Similar to the Coffee Breaks, these open forums encourage discussion around timely topics related to the industry and connection with other industry professionals.
As part of CoreNet Global’s Hackathon challenge, CoreNet NYC hosted three local sessions in an effort to connect and engage all chapters of CoreNet to discuss COVID-19’s impact on various topics. The sessions covered space utilization, distributed work, and workplace wellbeing. CoreNet has also hosted it’s quarterly Executive Leaders Council (ELC) roundtable virtually, and in May, the Chapter will begin hosting quarterly New Member virtual breakfast events.
“Now more than ever, it is important to offer opportunities to remain connected with our colleagues,” said Sheena Gohil, Executive Director, Colliers International and CoreNet NYC Chair. “CoreNet NYC is proud to be able to provide a content-rich virtual engagement platform for real estate professionals to connect, learn and grow with one another during these difficult times.”
