Consulting Engineers’ New York City office has been a leader in structural engineering design for diverse retail work throughout the New York metropolitan area. KPFF has provided critical structural engineering services for a variety of retailers as they pivot during the COVID-19 pandemic, transforming in-store shopping experiences as well as expanding distribution centers to be more efficient for consumers.

KPFF is currently working on four new Target retail stores throughout the greater New York City area and has been involved in the structural design and build-out of these new locations for the global retail giant. Over the last year, Target has focused on enhancing their same day service including drive up and order pick up services, in addition to creating anew front-of-store layout with lower walls and counters creating a more inviting destination, offering a compelling showcase for top brands and dedicated spaces to assist guests in discovering the right products for their needs.
In addition, KPFF is also working with online shopping powerhouse, Amazon, on the design and buildout of multiple new distribution centers in the region. These distribution centers can employ more than 1,500 full-time associates who pick, pack and ship customer orders. KPFF’s engineers are creating streamlined designs that will enable Amazon toprovide a more efficient process to meet customer demand.
KPFF has been involved in the design of multiple shopping centers, stand-alone stores, and new retail destinations including ground-up buildings and retail store conversions with existing buildings in addition to this new retail and logistics space. Some examples include Bens Cookies, DAVIDs TEA, Dollar Tree,David’s Bridal, Famous Footwear, TJ Maxx, HomeGoods, and Old Navy.
KPFF has become a go-to for leading fashion brands and has completed stores for Coach, Ralph Lauren, Tommy Hilfiger, Banana Republic, and the Gap, Saks Fifth Avenue, Warby Parker, Kate Spade, Tesla, The Kooples, Aquazzura, Armani, BCBG, Chaps, Diesel, Bare Minerals, Sephora, and Diptyque. KPFF has also been retained by retail restaurant and fast-casual brand leaders including Chop House, Let’s Yo!, JG Seafood, Joe & The Juice, and Sweetgreen.
