Emilie B. Cooper

Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver & Jacobson LLP announced today that Emilie B. Cooper has joined the Firm as a partner in the Real Estate Litigation Practice and member of the Litigation and Real Estate Departments. She will be based in the Firm’s New York office.

Ms. Cooper has significant experience handling disputes in the real estate and hospitality sectors. She regularly represents real estate and hotel investors, developers, lenders, owners, managers, and operators through all stages of complex litigation.

“Our Real Estate Litigation Practice has remained extremely active over the last year, and Emilie’s industry-focused expertise will be a great addition to the team and further expands our offering to our clients in this space,” said David J. Greenwald, chairman of Fried Frank. “We are pleased to welcome Emilie to the Firm.”

At Fried Frank, Ms. Cooper will represent both plaintiffs and defendants in the real estate and hospitality industries in high stakes litigations and arbitrations, including breach of contract, fraud, breach of fiduciary duty, commercial tort suits, securities, and foreclosure actions. She will also advise clients concerning the potential litigation implications of their agreements and transactions, providing a unique litigator’s point of view in a transactional context.

“I have known Emilie both personally and professionally for more than ten years, having worked with her both as co-counsel and across the table on high-profile disputes, and consider her one of the most accomplished attorneys in our field,” said Janice Mac Avoy, co-head of the Firm’s Real Estate Litigation Practice. “We are thrilled to welcome Emilie to the team and look forward to working with her on significant real estate litigation matters.”

“Emilie’s experience with hotel-related litigation and leasing disputes is a clear complement to our team’s expertise,” said Matthew D. Parrott, co-head of Fried Frank’s Real Estate Litigation Practice. “We are confident that Emilie’s addition and her specific industry knowledge will allow us to further provide value-add, practical counsel to our clients on their most complex transactions and litigations.”

Prior to joining Fried Frank, Ms. Cooper was a partner at Haynes and Boone, LLP in its litigation and real estate litigation practices. She received her JD, cum laude, from Georgetown University Law Center, where she was a symposium editor of the Georgetown Immigration Law Journal; and her B.Soc.Sci., magna cum laude, from the University of Ottawa.

Fried Frank’s Real Estate Litigation Practice was one of the first litigation practices in the United States to focus entirely on real estate litigation and continues to be one of the leading real estate litigation practices in the country today.
